Our award-winning Geisha Organic Facial using Chidoriya skin care range from Kyoto. When combined with our unique Japanese meridian massage technique requiring no less than 300 strokes, the active ingredients are fully optimised to beautify your skin. Chidoriya only uses natural organic ingredients, such as rice bran, camellia oil and azuki red beans that have been traditionally used for beauty care in Japan for centuries. The special finishing touch will be our exclusive uguisu no fun, made from UV-sanitized nightingales droppings. It is an amazing (all natural) way to smoothen and lighten the skin.

For the less adventurous, you may want to start with the Maiko Organic Facial. Maiko is a Japanese word for apprentice geisha. As the name implies, you can still enjoy all the organic goodness of the Japanese traditional facial ingredients minus the uguisu no fun (nightingale droppings), until the time comes to take on the real Geisha facial.

Hanami in Japan

Hanami, or cherry blossom viewing, is a seasonal spring tradition in Japan. From March to May, Sakura (cherry blossom) trees bloom all over Japan, and even the state weather bureau announces a blossom forecast every year. As the hanami seasons begin, people gathering in great numbers anywhere Sakura trees are found, like parks, riverside walks, ponds or even residential areas. It is a common sight to have picnic parties under the flowering tress, drinking and eating.

Sakura Park

Tradition and Meaning

Sakura are found through Japan, and they burst out in specific areas in a certain period during spring, and usually bloom for only a week after full-bloom. The small, round-shaped flowers flutter to the ground gracefully and because of their fragility and beauty, the sakura is often compared to the fleetingness of a human life. No matter how beautiful the blossom, it will wither away soon. Hence the cherry blossom leaves a strong impression in the Japanese people’s minds every year.

Other Flowers of Spring in Japan

Plum Blossoms (Ume)

Plum Blossoms (Ume)

Did you know that during the Nara period (8th century), the blossom of the ume tree was preferred over the cherry blossom?  The sakura blossom didn’t overcome the popularity of the ume blossom until the Heian period (794-1185).

Ume blossoms can range in color from almost white to a bright pink and are often mistaken for cherry blossoms.

The fruit of the ume tree, the Japanese plum is considered good luck in Japan, that is if you eat one each morning! It’s just one of the common superstitions in Japan.

Peach Blossoms (Momo)

Peach Blossoms (Momo)

The peach holds a special place in the hearts of the Japanese is said to be useful in driving away evil.  This concept is the basis for the popular folk tale Momotaro, where a young boy is found floating in a giant peach and grows up to defeat demons.

Papaya Whitening Body Ritual

Papaya Whitening Body Mask

Whiten your skin, naturally, with our two hour treatment. This through, top to toes, experience will renew your skin back to what you were born with.

Papaya has become known as a leading ingredient in skin whitening products because it contains papain, a natural enzyme that promotes skin renewal and cell turnover. It helps in exfoliating the skin to reveal newer cells, and has restorative properties that soften the skin.

To maximize the benefits of papaya, we recommend you to start with the Papaya Whitening Scrub to exfoliate those dulling dead skin cells, then proceed with the Papaya Whitening Body Mask to brighten up as well as moisture your skin. Lastly, give your body the extra lift with a relaxing massage using Vitamin C-rich Papaya Whitening Massage Oil.

Hokkaido Milk Bath Ritual

Hokkaido Milk

Hokkaido Milk

Dairy products are the famous local products in Hokkaido. It is because Japan produces their dairy cattle. The cows grew in Nature of Hokkaido at ease. The nice and cool climate and fresh air, and with the rich grass zone of Hokkaido that makes the cow grew healthily and naturally. Thus Japanese usually have their local milk products. Their milks contain a strong taste of milk, and are very smooth.

I know that most people have heard of a milk bath, well how about a milk bath from Japan, using imported Hokkaido fresh milk. How luxurious!

Hokkaido milk is incredibly beneficial for the skin in many different ways. Its various ingredients serve a multitude of skin-improving purposes. Part of the reason Hokkaido milk works wonders for skin is because it contains copious amount of lactic acid, acts as a gentle cleanser for skin. More importantly, Hokkaido milk also contains natural fat and organic proteins that provide the skin with a softer, more supple feeling.

Milk Bath

Before stepping into the luxurious Hokkaido Milk Bath, we recommend you to begin with Papaya Whitening Scrub to exfoliate, then soak and enjoy inside the Hinokiburo (Japanese wooden bath tub) while warm Hokkaido milk pours over you and wash away together with every last drop of tension in your body. Continue the relaxation by a good relaxing Papaya Whitening Massage to complete this tranquil experience.

Valentine Chocolate Spa Promotion!

Valentine Chocolate Spa Promotion Banner

In Japan, you need not bother yourself about what to buy for a present on Valentine’s Day. The present must be chocolate in 9 cases out of 10. Unlike the West, it is Japanese tradition that women will give men gifts of chocolate on this day.

Valentine with a Twist

Giri-Choco

Giri-Choco

At this time every year a working girl in Japan worries about whether or not to give a gift of chocolate to her superior at work. Even though she is not particularly interested in him, she feels anxious about what he thinks of her, if she doesn’t give a gift while other girls give. Usually she comes to a conclusion that she had better give some to her chief. The gift given in this manner is called Giri Choco (義理チョコ), translated as “obligation chocolate”.

Honmei-choco

Honmei-choco

Honmei Choco (本命チョコ), or “prospective winner chocolate”, is reserved for the men that are special in a woman’s life. She may buy honmei-choco for close family members, her boyfriend, or her husband. Honmei-choco gifts are made of more expensive chocolate, and often consist of chocolates molded in the shape of something the recipient enjoys, for example, golf-balls.

Ikeda Turns Him into Chocolate!

‘Tis Valentine’s Day, instead of giving chocolate to your love one, why not make him your chocolate… literally ;)

Valentine-Teaser

A little trivial – if you think it is lucky for men in Japan, think again. Men who received chocolates on Valentine’s day are supposed to give gifts back to the women on March 14th called White Day :)

What’s Vinotherapy?

In France, in 1990 Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas gave a tour of their winery to a University of Bordeaux professor and his students. Hearing a student remark that the discarded grape seeds contained a wealth of antioxidants and polyphenols, the Thomases began to experiment with vinotherapy.

Vinotherapy

Antioxidants:

  • stimulate collagen synthesis while supporting capillary health.
  • soothing to the skin and will act as an anti-inflammatory.
  • accelerate wound healing.
  • act as a free radical scavenger, defending the skin against pollution, sunlight and smoke.
  • promote tissue elasticity, creating a more youthful appearance.

Polyphenols:

  • are 10,000 times stronger than Vitamin E and 50 times more effective.
  • can reduce 80% of the free radicals which are responsible for wrinkles and skin aging.
  • can improve circulation by strengthening blood vessels.

Taking a Bath in your Favourite Wine?!

Have you ever thought about taking a bath in your favorite wine? Although, it sounds eccentric, vinotherapy has already touched down in Japan, where true wine aficionados aren’t just drinking the stuff, they are swimming in it.

Yunessun Spa Resort in Hakone

Yunessun Spa Resort in Hakone

The Yunessun Spa Resort in Hakone is one of many hot springs-fed resorts in Kanagawa. The aptly named wine spa features a huge wine bottle from which flows a tinted rich red hot spring water. Thrice daily, the on-duty sommelier come by to pour actual wine into the bath and onto the bathers.

Ikeda Turns Water into Wine!

Available in Cabernet or Riesling Favour

Available in Cabernet Red or Chardonnay White

Japanese love their baths and if you’ve ever enjoyed our Hinoki-ofuro bath you know it can be a near-religious experience. God, er, good things can always be made better, however, and Ikeda has brought in the latest bath essence in Japan that turn a simple bath into a full-on wine spa experience. The fragrance is so aromatic that one packet compares favorably of emptying a dozen bottles of Cabernet into the tub.

A complimentary glass of red wine (or white) is served while you are bathing in high spirits.

Drinking from Wine Spa

… so please restrain from drinking directly from the tub. Kanpai!
