Spring Spa-rty – Sake Pairing Workshop

sake pairing workshop

April is Japanese Spring Hanami month. This year, Ikeda Spa celebrated this significant month by holding this special sake pairing event!

It was our great honour to be able to collaborate with Spoonful and Interrice Asia. Our event was a great success with amazing turnouts – all thanks goes to Aoki-san, an extraordinary Japanese food event specialist and Adrian-san, a certified Japanese sake sommelier.

In case you missed it, here was what happened at our Spring Sake Pairing Spa-rty workshop.

Japanese Cooking Demonstration by Spoonful

Aoki-san put on her favourite cooking robe and used her magical hands to demonstrate how to make simple Japanese spring cuisine at your own home. Here were some food recipes she shared on that day.

  • Sushi rice
  • Temari Sushi (Cucumber/Salon)
  • Cream cheese Marinated by Miso
  • Hanami Dango

Spa Tour by Ikeda Spa

Our spa manager, Jason-san, showed everyone around and got them all excited about the Japanese onsen bath after the event.

Everyone can’t wait to jump into the bath after we shared the benefits of white ion water
Ikeda Spa Prestige (Clarke Quay): Singapore's first Japanese communal onsen
Did you know our water used in our communal onsen bath is specially treated with ionisation technology imported from Japan and is also known as white ion water?

Japanese Sake Pairing by Interrice Asia

Adrian-san shared enthusiastically about his visit to sake brewery in Japan and also taught all of us how to pair the right sake with the food we made earlier by Aoki-san. He was generous to bring his most precious sake collection to share with everyone.

Here’s the 3 sakes we drank tasted *hiccups* on that day:

  • Manostsuru Wakimizu Junmai
  • Manostsuru Junmai Ginjo
  • Manostsuru Yososaku Daiginjio
Best sake in Japan
Guess the price of the sake in purple wrapping – $300+! Apparently it is No. 1 sake in Japan!

After all the talking, I am thirsty too. Time for a sip of pure sake goodness.
